Hume Pipe Testing

Testing of RCC Hume Pipe is necessary to ensure its quality, durability, and performance. Hume Pipe Testing helps in checking for any defects, leaks or weakness in the pipe before it is used for drainage or sewer systems. At Shubh Sanskar Concrete, we make sure that every RCC pipe that is produced has undergone the several quality inspections and testing processes outlined in IS 458: 2021.

Hume Pipe Tests

1. Selection Of Specimen for Testing

All of the pipes used for testing are chosen at random from the manufacturer’s inventory and are the kind that this standard would not reject.

2. During Manufacturing of RCC Pipes

a) Compressive Cube Test

During manufacturing, tests on the compressive strengths of concrete cubes shall be done as per IS 456.

3. After Manufacturing Of RCC Hume Pipes

As per IS 458: 2021, the following tests are carried out after Hume pipe manufacturing to guarantee strength, durability, and quality:

a) Hydrostatic test:

In this concrete pipe test, water pressure from a pump is applied to a pipe that is sealed on all sides to see how much pressure the pipe can sustain before leaking. If the tested pressure is in accordance with ISI requirements, the pipe quality is considered acceptable.

b) Three-edge bearing test:

In the three-edge bearing test a load is applied at the center of the pipe and is gradually increased until the pipe breaks. This test determines the RCC pipe’s strength, which in turn determines how long the hume pipe will last.

c) Permeability test:

During the concrete mortar mixing process, more water is mixed with cement than is required. As a result, some voids are formed after the hydration process. Due to these air gaps in concrete, the concrete becomes susceptible to penetration attacks by aggressive chemicals greatly affecting the strength and durability of concrete.

Water absorption test for precast concrete hume pipe is used to verify the quality of concrete in terms of density and imperviousness since good-quality concrete has fewer voids caused by excess water.

After these rigorous testing procedures are performed, a hume pipe test report is made, and a RCC pipe test certificate is issued to the buyer, ensuring the authenticity and quality of concrete hume pipes.
