Reinforced or RCC Drainage Pipes are manufactured through a process called spinning in which centrifugal force is applied. In this process a steel welded cage consisting of steel wire and long TMT bars is placed inside a mould and concrete mixture is added on top while the mould is spun resulting in smooth and uniform drainage pipes.
Which class of RCC drainage pipe is suitable for what use:
- NP2 Class RCC Pipes are suitable to be used for drainage systems, irrigation channels or culverts situated at low traffic load areas.
- NP3 Class RCC Hume Pipes are suitable for being used in medium traffic load areas like highways and major roadways’ drainage or culvert channels.
- NP4 Class drainage pipes can handle heavy load without any issue hence are suitable for large scale infrastructure projects or storm water management projects.
Application according to diameter of pipe
As the diameter of the RCC drainage pipe increases the load bearing capacity also increases as they have better ability to distribute load, but the walls must also get thicker with diameters. While smaller diameter pipes are better at internal pressure handling due to reduced surface area exposure.
- 150-300 MM Dia RCC pipes are suitable for small residential area drainage and sewage systems.
- 400-800 MM Dia Drainage pipes are used for urban drainage and municipal sewage projects.
- 900-1200 MM Dia RCC pipes are ideal for highways, industrial areas and large culverts.
- 1400 MM Dia Hume pipes and Above are most suitable for heavy duty application like storm water management, major cities drainage networks and culverts.
